As children reach school age, their independent oral hygiene becomes very important.  This is a time of change, and with these changes, learning to establish healthy brushing and flossing patterns on their own.  Remember it is important to brush both in the morning after breakfast and at night before your child goes to bed.

Try to limit any soda or other sugary drinks like juice and chocolate milk to meal times only.  Encourage water throughout the day.  Limit sweet snacks, and have healthy snacks available like fruits and vegetables.

Your child is getting to the age that they can start brushing their own teeth with only occasional assistance from parents.  This way they are able to gain confidence in their own abilities to take care of themselves while still having parent supervision.  Praise them for taking these independent steps, while making sure they are completing this care.

Establishing these healthy habits will benefit them for life!firstWelcome
